Boosting Engagement: How Boom™ Cards Keep Early Finishers on Task

We all have those students who make our job easy. They catch on to concepts quickly and do their work quickly and thoroughly….and they finish their work before all the other students. This means these early finishers also become bored quickly.

What to do with these early finishers that relieves boredom and also challenges them academically? Boom™ Cards may be just the solution you’re looking for. In this blog post, we’ll look at reasons Boom™ Cards are perfect for your early finishers.

What are Boom™ Cards? Boom™ Cards are digital task cards. They can be played on tablets, laptops, desktop computers, and interactive whiteboards. They make great individual, small group, or whole class activities. Boom™ Cards are accessed and played through the Boom™ Learning site.

Before we get into all the reasons Boom™ Cards are perfect for your early finishers, I have a free set of division Boom™ Cards for you to try out! You can click here to get it. And if you’re interested in seeing all of 3rd Grade Engaged’s Boom™ Card decks, you can click here. I am proud to be a Boom™ Cards Premier Publisher, which means that all my Boom™ Card decks have been reviewed and approved by Boom™ Learning to be high quality and rigorous.

Boom™ Cards are no-prep!

If you haven’t tried Boom™ Cards before, you may not know that they require no prep on your part! Simply assign the deck and students are ready to go. This means no worksheets or activities to print, prep, and have ready. Boom™ Cards are ready to go anytime. They can be used over and over, with no extra teacher work needed. This is a great way to take one more thing off your teacher plate.

Boom™ Cards are also self-checking, and they give students immediate feedback. Students find out as soon as they answer if their answer is correct or incorrect. This helps keep students focused, motivated, and on task.

Super Student Engagement

Boom™ Cards are interactive and keep students engaged. They turn learning into a game, which students love. Many cards include sounds and animations. They also come in many different lengths - different decks have different numbers of cards and teachers can assign whatever number they’d like. This means that unlike many worksheets, which advanced students can whip through, Boom™ Cards can last a little longer.

So many formats are available for Boom™ Cards to engage your students. Escape rooms, color by number, mystery pictures….you name the activity and there’s probably a Boom™ Cards version! The wide variety of decks makes them invaluable.

Students especially love escape rooms. If you’re interested in escape rooms, you can get my Third Grade Place Value Escape Rooms by clicking here. Or you can check out my Properties of Multiplication Escape Rooms here. Need addition and subtraction? I’ve got those here!

Something for Every Topic and Skill Level

Have students that need work that’s more complex? Don’t worry, you can find Boom™ Cards on many different levels for your learners. On the Boom™ Learning site, you can preview the first few cards of each deck to see if the level is appropriate for your learners. It makes choosing decks so easy.

Would you like to expand your early finishers’ horizons with topics outside the regular curriculum? Have a kiddo that’s obsessed with space or dinosaurs? There are Boom™ Decks for so many topics to interest all learners.

They provide valuable teacher data.

Instruction is driven by data, and Boom™ Cards provide a wealth of data for teachers! Yeah, teacher reports show you student scores on each deck. But they show so much more.

Just a few of the data details you can see: Your teacher report will show how long a student spent on a deck and how long they spent on each card in a deck. This is great for tracking students who rush through their work. If a student completes a deck more than once, the report will show the average score, best score, first score, and last score.

There’s so much more data available to teachers! Boom™ Learning has a page here that explains how to read teacher reports.
